This happened to me also last week.
Just go into options and then make sure that the quality of the sound is set to high. I did not have to restart GW but try to close it and start again. |

You're not crazy. I've noticed this myself recently with my warrior. When she attacks with her axe, it just makes the "swoosh" sound, like on a miss, but the little green numbers rising above the monster's head say othewise. I checked all my settings too and they're right where they're supposed to be. It's probably a bug from a recent update.

I am sure it is a bug. Last week my axe was making quite a racket. It was too loud really. Now it makes almost no sound at all. I hope they fix it soon.
I think my swords sound fine though. |

What monsters were you attacking? I never keep track of em but I think that for some monsters it's always been that you don't here anything but the swoosh of the weapon. I've noticed it from time to time in the past that when I'll be fighting certain monsters I'll only hear the swoosh but then we I go over and kill something of a different type it makes the sound. Maybe I'm wrong, i dunno, but what monsters were you attacking?

My axe warrior's been getting swishing noises too. And on all types of monsters. I was progressing through maguum jungle and now I'm in the desert. I think I remember swishes in the jungle as well as now in the desert.

No Sounds solution
This happens with me and my warrior from time to time. I did post a thread on this but maybe the search doesn't work.
Adjust your Sound Quality bar and it will come back. |

It is a bug introduced from the last update where ArenaNet is trying to support some 3d sound thing or other.
I thought the sounds were awesome and that they now suck and it makes the game experience about half that of what it used to be. Adjusting the bar does absolutely nothing for me, and no - without actual instructions on what 'exactly' to do with the rest of my computer's sound settings, I should not have to make any adjustments at all - the sound was glorious prior to the update, and now it bites. I guess I'm getting a bit frustrated as ArenaNet has no 'real' answer except the same canned ones that tell you to 'slide the bar' and all will be fine. Well it won't be, not for many of us and no one has yet to provide a decent answer that satisfies...least of all ArenaNet. How did this problem get through their Quality Assurance tests? No idea - I think the problem was known to effect '2-speaker' machines, and in an effort to cow-tow to the elites with uber systems, and hold bragging rights of supporting some miraculous MEGA SOUND system in their game, ArenaNet let it out the door anyway. How else do you explain the problems? Many folks are asking for a toggle: allow support of the new sound or go back to the old...it sounds like an easy plan as all they have to do is incorporate both sets of code into the overall GW system...simple If-Then. I ask ArenaNet to step-up and decide to be different and provide some instructions for things, like: - If the new sound that is sported in GW is in need of 'driver updates', simply state that in your release notes or Game Update notes on your website...instead of holding secrets as to why people had great sound one moment, saw the 'New Build of Guild Wars Available' message, logged off and then back on to download the new Build, and now have crap for sound - with little to no explanation. Whew! Sorry about the rant...I'm tired of crappy sound and sporadic support. Greatest game ever made - until the sound update. I join with the thousands who say: "Please fix it." |

Go to your control panel and open 'Sounds and Audio Devices'
On the Speaker Settings box click on Advanced to open the 'Advanced Audio Properties' Check that you're speaker setup is correct. If you have 2.1 speaker system leave the setting on Desktop Stereo Speakers |
